PURAMORIA Skin Education
A Simple Routine for Dry Skin & Barrier Support
Dry, tight or flaky skin usually benefits from better product fit—not more steps. This guide shows how to combine gentle cleansing, a moisturizer matched to your skin’s dryness level, targeted moisture-sealing care and daily SPF 30+, while keeping the routine simple enough to understand what your skin actually tolerates.
The short version
Dry Skin Routine at a Glance
The core routine is simple: cleanse only as much as needed, moisturize while the skin is still slightly damp, add richer moisture-sealing care only where needed, and use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. The moisturizer should be chosen by the complete formula and texture—not by one hero ingredient.
Hydrate, soften and protect
- Cleanse gently—or simply rinse if a full cleanse is unnecessary.
- Choose a moisturizer based on how dry or lightweight your skin needs it to feel.
- Finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30+.
Cleanse and reduce moisture loss
- Remove sunscreen, makeup and daily buildup without over-cleansing.
- Apply a hydrating moisturizer.
- Seal persistently dry areas with a richer occlusive layer if needed and tolerated.
Understand the concern
Dry Skin Needs More Than Water Alone
Dry skin can involve reduced water content in the outermost skin layer together with changes in the lipids that help that layer function as a protective barrier. Low humidity, cleansing habits, age, topical treatments, individual skin biology and skin conditions can all influence dryness.
A useful moisturizer therefore does more than add water. In practical terms, dry-skin care usually combines three functions: humectants that support water retention, emollients that soften and smooth the skin surface, and occlusive ingredients that help reduce excessive moisture loss.
Skin barrier basics
What a Barrier-Supportive Routine Actually Does
1. Humectants
Ingredients such as glycerin and sodium hyaluronate help attract and retain water in the outer skin layers. They work best as part of a complete moisturizer rather than as the only strategy for very dry skin.
2. Emollients
Ingredients such as squalane, fatty alcohols, esters, shea butter and plant oils can help smooth rough-feeling skin and improve softness and flexibility.
3. Occlusives
Ingredients such as petrolatum, mineral oil and waxes form a moisture-resistant layer on the surface and can help reduce transepidermal water loss. They are especially useful when targeted to persistent dry patches.
Moisturizer decision guide
Choose Your Moisturizer by Skin State
PURAMORIA currently has two leave-on facial moisturizers that fit different needs. Both contain niacinamide and both current published ingredient lists include fragrance. The key difference is the rest of the formula: Radiance has a broader emollient and lipid-supporting system, while Aqua-Soothe is lighter and places more emphasis on hydration and skin-conditioning botanicals. Ingredient lists do not disclose exact percentages, so this comparison is based on ingredient roles and the overall formula structure—not assumed concentrations.
Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream SPF15
Best fit in this routine: morning moisturizer for skin that feels dry, rough, tight or under-moisturized.
The current formula combines glycerin and sodium hyaluronate with niacinamide, squalane, coco-caprylate/caprate, ethyl oleate, cetearyl alcohol, shea butter extract, olive-derived esters and sunflower seed oil. This gives it a richer emollient profile than Aqua-Soothe and makes it the stronger PURAMORIA fit when dryness and moisture loss are the main concerns.
Know before use: it contains fragrance and SPF 15. The SPF 15 does not replace the dedicated SPF 30+ step below.

Best fit in this routine: users who want a lighter moisturizer but still experience tightness or dehydration.
The current formula combines glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and niacinamide with coco-caprylate/caprate and cetyl alcohol, plus Centella asiatica, licorice, chamomile, aloe and allantoin. It is a lighter hydration-and-conditioning option rather than the richest choice for very dry skin.
Know before use: the current formula contains fragrance. Very dry skin may need additional emollient or occlusive support, especially at night.

Best fit in this routine: targeted moisture-sealing care on areas that remain rough or dry after moisturizer.
Its published formula is substantially richer and includes petrolatum, mineral oil, beef tallow, waxes, jojoba oil, shea butter, honey and vitamin E. Use a small amount where extra occlusive support is useful rather than assuming the whole face needs the same level of richness.
Know before use: the published ingredient list does not list added fragrance, but the texture can feel too heavy for some oily or congestion-prone facial areas.

Morning: Hydrate, Soften, Then Protect
Step 1 — Cleanse only as much as you need
Over-cleansing can intensify tightness. If your skin feels comfortable after waking and you do not need to remove heavy overnight products, a water rinse may be enough. When cleansing is needed, use lukewarm water, avoid prolonged washing and do not scrub dry or flaky areas.
Amino Acid Gentle Moisturizing Cleanser
The published formula uses a multi-surfactant cleansing system including potassium cocoyl glycinate, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, together with glycerin, beta-glucan, aloe, allantoin and niacinamide as skin-conditioning ingredients.
Know before use: the current formula contains fragrance and DMDM hydantoin. It is not a fragrance-free or sulfate-free cleanser. If you have a diagnosed allergy to fragrance, formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, choose a cleanser consistent with your clinician’s advice.

Applying moisturizer soon after cleansing or rinsing helps trap water already present at the skin surface. For this dry-skin topic, Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream SPF15 is the primary PURAMORIA moisturizer when the main concern is dryness, tightness or flaking, because its published formula contains a broader set of emollient and lipid-supporting ingredients than Aqua-Soothe.
Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream SPF15
Glycerin and sodium hyaluronate support hydration, while squalane, shea butter extract, fatty alcohols and multiple emollient lipids help soften dry-feeling skin and reduce the need to rely on humectants alone. Niacinamide adds a barrier-supportive active within the complete formula.
Important: this cream contains fragrance. It also contains SPF 15, but for this routine you should still follow with a separate broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher.
View Radiance Niacinamide Face CreamStep 3 — Finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30+
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher in the morning and follow its directions for application and reapplication. A moisturizer that contains SPF 15 should not be treated as a substitute for this dedicated sun-protection step.
PM routine
Evening: Replenish Hydration, Then Seal Only Where Needed
If you wore sunscreen or makeup, cleanse in the evening to remove the day without aggressive scrubbing. Pat the skin so it remains slightly damp, then move directly to moisturizer.
Step 1 — Use a daytime-and-nighttime moisturizer as the base
Aqua-Soothe Hydrating Cream
Aqua-Soothe is suitable for both daytime and nighttime use. In this routine, its practical strength is as a lighter hydration base: glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and niacinamide are paired with lighter emollients and skin-conditioning ingredients including centella, licorice, chamomile, aloe and allantoin.
Know before use: the current formula contains fragrance. If Aqua-Soothe alone leaves very dry areas feeling under-moisturized, add a small amount of richer occlusive care over those areas rather than automatically applying a heavy balm across the whole face.

Whipped Tallow Honey Balm
This rich balm combines petrolatum, mineral oil, beef tallow, waxes, jojoba oil, shea butter, honey and vitamin E. Its role here is to help reduce moisture loss from rough, persistently dry areas after your moisturizer.
How to use it: start with a very small amount and press it over the areas that need more sealing. More product is not automatically better, and a rich occlusive texture may feel excessive on oily or congestion-prone zones.

Choose Ingredients by Function, Not by Hype
| Function | Examples in this routine | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Humectants | Glycerin, sodium hyaluronate | Help attract and retain water in the outer skin layers. |
| Emollients & lipid-supporting ingredients | Squalane, coco-caprylate/caprate, fatty alcohols, shea butter, esters, plant oils | Help soften rough-feeling skin and improve surface flexibility and comfort. |
| Occlusives | Petrolatum, mineral oil, waxes | Help reduce water loss from the skin surface and can be useful on persistent dry patches. |
| Barrier-supportive / skin-conditioning actives | Niacinamide, allantoin, aloe, Centella asiatica | Can complement the moisturizing system; the performance of the finished formula matters more than any single ingredient. |
| Potential sensitivity triggers | Fragrance and individual allergens | Not everyone reacts, but known sensitivities should guide product choice—especially for leave-on products. |
Do not read an ingredient list as a concentration chart. INCI order can help you understand the structure of a formula, but it does not reveal the exact percentage of every ingredient. Texture, frequency of use, climate and your own skin response also matter.
Sensitive-skin transparency
When Dry Skin Is Also Sensitive
“Sensitive skin” is not one single condition. If your skin reacts easily, simplify the routine before adding more products. Introduce leave-on products one at a time, pay attention to persistent burning or stinging, and review the complete ingredient list rather than relying only on front-label language.
Both Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream and Aqua-Soothe currently list Fragrance in their published ingredient lists. Many people tolerate fragranced products, but if fragrance is one of your known triggers, a fragrance-free leave-on moisturizer is the more straightforward choice for this step.

A Practical AM & PM Framework
For dry, tight or flaky skin
- Cleanse only if needed: Amino Acid Gentle Moisturizing Cleanser, or rinse with lukewarm water if that is enough.
- Moisturize: Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream SPF15 for the richer PURAMORIA option. Choose Aqua-Soothe instead if you prefer lighter hydration.
- Protect: finish with a separate broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen.
Hydrate first, seal second
- Cleanse: remove sunscreen, makeup and buildup without over-washing.
- Hydrate: apply Aqua-Soothe while skin is still slightly damp if its fragranced formula suits your skin.
- Seal selectively: press a small amount of Whipped Tallow Honey Balm over persistent dry areas when extra occlusive support is needed.
Common questions
Dry Skin & Barrier Support FAQs
Which PURAMORIA moisturizer is the better fit for dry skin: Radiance or Aqua-Soothe?
For dry, tight or flaky skin, Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream is the stronger PURAMORIA fit in the morning because its published formula combines humectants with a broader emollient and lipid-supporting system, including squalane, shea butter extract, fatty alcohols and multiple emollient esters and oils. Aqua-Soothe is lighter and better suited when dehydration, combination skin or a lighter finish is the priority. Both contain fragrance, so known fragrance sensitivity should change the choice.
Can the SPF 15 in Radiance Niacinamide Face Cream replace sunscreen?
No. For this routine, use Radiance as the moisturizer step and still finish with a separate broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher. Follow the sunscreen label for application and reapplication.
Should I wash dry facial skin twice a day?
Not necessarily. Cleansing needs depend on what is on your skin, your environment and how your skin responds. An evening cleanse is useful for removing sunscreen and buildup, while the morning can often be lighter. The goal is effective cleansing without persistent tightness afterward.
Is hyaluronic acid enough for dry skin?
Hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate are useful humectants, but very dry skin often benefits from a complete moisturizer that also contains emollient and/or occlusive components. Think in terms of formula function rather than relying on one isolated ingredient.
Can niacinamide support the skin barrier?
Niacinamide has published research supporting a role in epidermal barrier function, including effects on stratum-corneum lipids and transepidermal water loss. That does not mean every niacinamide product performs identically; concentration, vehicle and the rest of the finished formula still matter.
Is petrolatum bad for dry skin?
Petrolatum is a widely used occlusive that can help reduce moisture loss. In a facial routine, the practical question is usually how much and where to use it. A petrolatum-rich balm can be useful on targeted dry areas but may feel unnecessarily heavy across the whole face for some people.
Can fragrance irritate dry or sensitive skin?
Some people tolerate fragrance without difficulty, while others can develop irritation or allergic contact dermatitis. If fragrance is a known trigger for you, choose fragrance-free products and review the full ingredient list before use.
When should persistent dry skin be professionally evaluated?
Consider professional evaluation when dryness is persistent despite basic moisturizing care, or when you have significant itching, inflammation, bleeding, deep cracks, oozing, pain or other symptoms that may indicate a condition needing individualized assessment.
